Established in April 1972
Lakeside Camera Center opened its doors on April 29,1972. The company was
conceived of and founded by Rodney Guidry and Susan Guidry. The original store
was an 800 sq. ft. full service camera store located at 3000 Severn Ave. just
around the corner from our present location in Metairie. By 1978 Lakeside Camera Center
had quadrupled in size to over 3200 square feet.
In 1981 the store was moved to its present 6,000 sq. ft. location at 3508 21st
street. At the time it was thought that it would be impossible to fill 6,000-sq. ft.,
Ha! The move in 1981 also marked our entry into the photo finishing business
when we installed one of the first mini-labs in the South.
In 1985 our name was changed to Lakeside Camera & Video to reflect our
involvement in the growing video camera and accessory market. In 1989,
Lakeside Camera & Video entered the digital imaging business that is so much a
part of our service today. More processing and digital services were added
through the 1990’s.
By 1993 it was appropriate to change our name to Lakeside Camera & Imaging
because the comprehensive nature of our services enabled us to do almost
anything with a visual image. Much of our growth and success can be attributed
to the talent and vision of Rodney J. Guidry who died of lung cancer on July 13,
1996.
In April of 1997, a second Lakeside Camera and Imaging was opened to serve
the Mandeville/Covington communities. After rebuilding from damages related to
Hurricane Katrina, we became Lakeside Camera Photoworks AND Lakeside
Camera Printworks. The Guidry family privately owns Lakeside Camera
Photoworks. Our list of services is ever growing and we continue to embrace new
technologies. Today we employ 40 residents of South Louisiana. We serve a very
loyal consumer and commercial customer base.
Our investment in the newest technologies allows us to do almost anything with
a visual image and contributes to our ever growing products and services.
